The Portuguese Way from Ponte da Lima

Ponte de Lima – Santiago

Reaching Santiago by horse is the “promised trip”, is the first and most important European cultural route, where the reasons for coming are still alive after more than a thousand years. As pilgrims on horseback, will be protagonists, for a few days, of the living history of an ancient route where will live new sensations.Monasterio

1º Day. Pickup in Vigo airport at 15 hours. Transfer and meeting participants at 17:00 in Ponte de Lima (Portugal), in addition to being the oldest town in Portugal is the point of convergence of the different routes from Porto and Braga. Accommodation in a “Quinta” (manor, similar to Pazos) there we meet our horses and traveling partners.

2º Day. La CaleirosThe first stage is in the north of Portugal, Crossing the Sierra de Labruja, we heard towards to the fortified population of Valenca, finalizing a few meters from the border with Spain, conquering in a legal and spoiled way this historic fortification. We will visit Tui wich is in the Galician region, will see building build with historic stone, religious and civil, located around the Cathedral. Dinner and overnight at the Parador de Valenca do Minho. Overnight between the walls of a thirteenth century city.

3º Day. Esta etapa VaBriónValença – Porriño stage, we do not to our like this stage, so we realize that stage in a parallel way in which we will pass through hiking trails that run through the National Park Mount Aloia, and mount Galiñeiro, places of spectacular views of the estuaries and their contours. Arrive Porriño dinner and overnight.

Rio

4º Day. Porriño – Soutomaior stage. This path runs through forests and mountains of huge botanical and landscape interest. We will reach the castle of Soutomaior which is a medieval fortress high historical, architectural relevance.

Catedral de Santiago

5º Day. Soutomaior Pontevedra, this is the shortest stage of this journey, so take your time to know this city, it has the best preserved old town and highest architectural cultural interest of this journey.

6º Day. Padrón Pontevedra this is a long but very rewarding journey. We will cross Alba marshes, the natural park of Barosa river, Caldas de Rey and the valley of Valga river to reach Padrón where we will stay.
